The Teacher Education Program in the Rutgers-Newark Department of Urban Education prepares competent, caring, and qualified educators for the Newark Public Schools and other urban districts. Our mission, consistent with the goals of thirty years of court mandated educational reform for the district, is to recommend for certification critically reflexive novice teachers who are equipped to teach a racially, ethnically, economically, and linguistically diverse student population meaningful skills for meaningful lives.
